While both services are delivered in the comfort of your home, their primary care goals differ:

• Home Health Care: Focused on rehabilitation and recovery. It provides physician-prescribed skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to help patients regain independence following an injury, surgery, or acute illness.
  

• Hospice Care: Tailored for individuals diagnosed with a terminal or advanced illness who choose comfort and quality of life over curative treatments. The hospice team provides pain management, skilled nursing, emotional guidance, spiritual support, and personal care assistance.

Hospice care is designed for individuals diagnosed with an advanced or life-limiting illness where a physician estimates a life expectancy of six months or less if the disease runs its normal course. Common conditions qualifying for hospice care include:

• Congestive heart failure (CHF) and advanced heart disease

• COPD, emphysema, and chronic pulmonary disease

• Advanced cancer and malignant tumors

• Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia

• End-stage renal (kidney) disease or liver failure

• ALS, Parkinson’s disease, and late-stage neurological conditions

Eligibility is determined collaboratively between your primary physician and our hospice medical director.

In most situations, hospice care is 100% covered with little to no out-of-pocket costs for qualified patients. Coverage is provided through:

• The Medicare Hospice Benefit (Part A): Covers comprehensive clinical visits, medical equipment (like hospital beds or oxygen), medication related to symptom management, and nursing care.

• Michigan Medicaid: Covers comprehensive hospice benefits for eligible state residents.

• Commercial & Private Insurance / VA Benefits: Most Medicare Advantage and commercial plans offer hospice coverage matching Medicare standards.

Hospice care is a specialized philosophy of care rather than a fixed physical location. Americans Home Health & Hospice Care delivers services directly wherever the patient calls home. This includes:
